Sarah Wilton, Independent Non-Executive Chair of the Board
Sarah has extensive senior executive experience in due diligence, post-acquisition integration, acquisitions, disposals, IPO and other capital transactions – in the UK, Europe and US. Sarah was previously a Director of Run-off and open years and member of senior executive team at Lloyd’s. Prior to that Sarah was appointed as a Non-Executive Director of CMGL Syndicate Management Limited in March 2003 (changed name to CMA 26 June 2008) and brings extensive Lloyd’s experience as previous Director of Run-off/Open Years and member of senior executive team at Lloyd’s.
David Hope, Independent Non-Executive Director
David's roles include Chief Underwriting Officer and Chief Executive Officer of Torus Insurance and President, Marine and Energy and Chief Executive Officer of Navigators London from 2002 - 2007. David was also an underwriter of Syndicate 1009 at Lloyd’s of Octavian Managing Agency (Markel) from 1984 – 2002 and an underwriter at the Insurance Company of North America from 1977- 1984.
Ken Curtis, Independent Non-Executive Director
Ken is a chartered accountant with over 25 years’ insurance market experience. Ken joined the CMA Board as a Non-Executive Director in January 2020. Prior to this Ken held the position of Director of Finance and Risk at the Lloyd’s Market Association, preceded by senior roles with Barbican Managing Agency (Managing Director) and Chaucer Holdings PLC (Chief Finance Officer).
Iain Bremner, Independent Non-Executive Director
Iain Bremner is a widely experienced insurance professional, FCCA qualified, with over 33 years’ service. He has held board executive positions for most of this time, including being CEO or Managing Director of various Lloyd’s managing agencies. His varied roles have meant that he has developed strong relationships with senior executives at Lloyd’s. He has had extensive dealings with sourcing and subsequently managing third-party capital within managed syndicates.
Simon Sykes, Chief Executive Officer
Prior to Capita, Simon spent five years at Vibe Syndicate Management Ltd and Plus Risk Ltd as the Director of Underwriting Operations and Chairman. Simon held senior operational roles at Alterra at Lloyd’s, Jubilee Managing Agency and Lloyd’s of London. Simon is also a Non-Executive Director of Siepe Sports, a specialist sports risk analytics and brokerage business.
Phil Smith, Managing Director
Phil has over 35 years’ experience in the Lloyd’s and London insurance markets, with extensive experience in insurance third party management services, Schemes of Arrangement, prudential regulation and Lloyd’s of London. Starting his career with a small insurance broker in 1983, Phil moved into the management of third-party Run-Off companies. Phil joined the Prudential Regulation Authority as an Insurance Supervisor in 2012 before joining Lloyd’s of London in 2014 where he worked as an Oversight Manager. Phil has taken new syndicate start-ups through the approval process at Lloyd’s and has a comprehensive understanding of Lloyd’s requirements and capital assessments. Phil joined Capita Managing Agency in September 2019.
Peter Laws, Compliance Director
Peter has worked as a senior compliance officer in the London Market since 2005 and in Lloyd’s managing agents since 2011. Peter has specialised in third-party syndicate management, gaining experience at Asta Managing Agency, but has also been heavily involved in direct applications for regulatory authorisation, particularly at AXIS Managing Agency. Latterly, Peter’s role has expanded to include responsibility for governance and more recently risk management. Peter is a Chartered Accountant, having trained and qualified with Mazars.
Jenny Hummerston, Director of Underwriting
Jenny has over 30 years in the Lloyd’s Insurance Market, including ten years underwriting, before moving to roles relating to underwriting management and operations. Prior to Capita, Jenny was employed at Alterra and then Markel as head of Syndicate Management and Reporting. Jenny has extensive experience and technical knowledge of underwriting, claims, reinsurance, underwriting systems and management information.
Rob Saxon, Head of Underwriting Management
Rob’s role is to oversee the underwriting functions of our managed Syndicates, both live and run-off. Prior to joining Capita in 2017, Rob gained specific knowledge of start-up Lloyd’s Syndicates from his time at ProSight, where he was responsible for Underwriting Performance, Reinsurance, Exposure Management and Wordings. Rob has significant operational and underwriting control knowledge and is heavily involved in business planning (SBF), Lloyd’s reporting and performance monitoring. More recently, Rob has been focusing on the Future of Lloyd’s, working on potential new Syndicates or Syndicates in a Box (SIAB).
Rob’s core background is Exposure Management, his role at QBE and before that, Royal & Sun Alliance. Rob has years of expertise related to Catastrophe modelling and alignment to Capital requirements and the Internal Model.
Karma Coogans, Finance Director
Karma is a Chartered Accountant with 15 years’ experience in the Lloyd’s Insurance Market covering a broad range of roles involving technical accounting, financial planning and analysis, regulatory reporting and audit for both aligned and non-aligned syndicates. Karma has led and managed the implementation of various changing regulatory requirements including Solvency II, IFRS and UK GAAP across general and life syndicates. Since joining Capita, Karma has focussed on all aspects of the financial management and regulatory reporting for run off and turnkey syndicates. More recently, as Finance Director, Karma has been in working in conjunction with those wishing to enter the Lloyd’s market.
Robert Bunbury, Chief Actuary
Robert is a Fellow of the Institute & Faculty of Actuaries and a Chartered Management Accountant, with 30 years of experience in the insurance industry. Prior to joining Capita, he spent four years with Armour Group where he was Chief Actuary for two UK run-off companies. This was preceded by a variety of roles at Liberty Specialty Markets, Ecclesiastical Insurance, AXA, and Legal and General.
Paul Wooldridge, Managing Director of Capita Commercial Insurance Services (CCIS)
Paul is a senior client relationship and operations director with a proven track record of operational delivery and transformational change within a number of operational areas. Paul has extensive knowledge across both the London Market Insurance and Reinsurance sectors and has managed high profile operational areas delivering pre and post placement services including claims. Previously, Paul held various senior operational and management roles within Marsh and Guy Carpenter before joining Capita in 2005.
Kath Gioiosa, Managing Director of London Market Services (part of CCIS)
Previously Operations Director of Underwriting Services. Kath has extensive knowledge of the business and wider industry and has been with Capita Specialty Insurance Services since 2000, holding a number of technical management roles. Kath has worked in the insurance industry for over 30 years and prior to Capita held various technical and operational roles in Trinity Square Services and English & American Group.
